Description

Aquilegia are graceful, clump forming perennials which produce spurred, bell shaped flowers in a varied colour range above fern like foliage. They are a good frost tolerant rock garden plant or look best in bold clumps with a foreground planting of annuals.

Cultivation

They prefer a cold to temperate climate with protection from strong winds and some shade in hot areas. Plant in winter to spring with the crown just under the soil and spaced approx. 20cm apart in well drained light soil enriched with manure or a complete fertilizer on a sunny site. Water once per week during flowering or in low rainfall areas. Plants can be left for at least 3 years and then if required can be lifted, divided and replanted. Flowering in summer – autumn. Height: 60 – 90 cm.
