'Stachyurus praecox' is currently unavailable.
Similar in character to Witch Hazel and Corylopsis, Stachyurus is a deciduous shrub with gracefully drooping 8cm long racemes of small yellow flower buds appearing in great numbers before the leaves; their soft colouring standing out against the bare cinnamon/reddish coloured branches in late winter. The leaves that follow are up to 15cm long and are carried on the tiered stems up to height and spread of 1.8 by 2metres. In a mild season this species is noted for its early flowering habit in that it is the first plant to flower, from late winter onwards. It is a heralder of spring from the winter plant garden.
