Description

Pieris are small, shrubby, evergreen plants valued for their neat, compact habit, attractive foliage and flowers and rarely exceeding 3.5metres in height. The flowers themselves are the key attraction due to the bush often nearly totally covered in racemes of drooping clusters of bell shaped, waxy shaped blooms in late winter to spring.

Cultivation

These plants require a temperate climate and soil that is moist, peaty and acidic. They appreciate humidity and a part shaded site. It is frost resistant but drought tender. Prepare the growing site by digging over the soil and adding a good handful of blood and bone, rich compost or well decayed animal manure prior to planting out. Water in well at planting time and then on an occasional basis to promote growth. No particular pests or diseases.
