Description

A dainty early spring flowering bulb for garden border edging or pots and containers. A succession of small, star shaped flowers are produced on 10 to 15 cm stems above a layer of flat, grassy, light green leaves. Sweetly fragrant and planted in masses, Spring Starflower blooms over a long period from late winter to spring and makes a delicate heralding of the new season. Frost hardy, easy to grow in any temperate climate and multiplies rapidly.

Cultivation

In warmer zones they prefer a sheltered position with dappled light, but full sun in cooler areas. Prepare the growing site by digging over the soil and adding a good handful of blood and bone, rich compost or well decayed animal manure prior to planting out. Plant the bulbs 5cm deep and 8 to 12cm apart. Water in well at planting time and then on an occasional basis to promote growth. A general fertiliser given in spring when new growth emerges will speed the growth. No particular pests or diseases.
