Description

A popular shrub valued for its brilliant gold blossoms in mid-spring on arching or spreading deciduous form with dark green, lance shaped leaves. Forsythia has soft wooded stems branching from near the ground and grows to between 2.4 and 3 metres in height and width. When in bloom, they make excellent cut flowers.

Cultivation

A fully frost hardy plant that is not fussy about soil type. They prefer a sunny position in cool to temperate climate zones with cold winter temperatures to assist them to flower properly. Not suitable for very warm to hot climates. Prepare the growing site by digging over the soil and adding a good handful of blood and bone, rich compost or well decayed animal manure prior to planting out. Water in well at planting time and then on an occasional basis to promote growth. No particular pests or diseases. Prune only to remove older branches.
