Cultivation

Festuca are quite undemanding as to the soil type they prefer as long as it is well drained. They will do best if planted in a position in full sun or partial shade. Prepare the growing site by digging over the soil and adding a good handful of blood and bone, rich compost or well decayed animal manure prior to planting out. As lawn grasses, they appreciate annual dethatching and aeration. In favourable conditions they will remain green year-round, however, in hotter weather, ensure they remain well-watered and do not mow too closely. They can withstand the severest of frosts.
