Description

Cup of Gold is a woody stemmed, scrambling climber growing to 9 metres or more with large 25cm wide fragrant yellow trumpet shaped flowers with purplish stripes down the centre of each petal. It has tough, shiny, leathery foliage, so it tolerates wind, dry conditions and salt spray. It is an excellent plant for seaside gardens.

Cultivation

Solandra is susceptible to frost and therefore requires a warm climate in either sub-tropical or temperate locations to thrive outdoors. It can be grown in cool to cold locations if given protection under cover or in a greenhouse. Choose a sunny location and plant in fertile, well drained soil with plenty of space and support. Water freely during the growing season and apply a balanced fertiliser for best flowering response. Thin out crowded stems after flowering. No particular pest or disease problems.
