Description

A tough, slow growing small to medium evergreen shrub to 1.5 metres tall but can grow to be twice as wide. It has glossy, dark green leathery leaves and produces an attractive display of fragrant large star shaped pink flowers in spring followed by clusters of black berries which have a bluish tinge. A moderately frost hardy plant that can be grown in hot to temperate climates with open sunny locations (including seaside gardens) and a wide variety of soil types.

Cultivation

Choose an open, sunny position with light to medium well composted and draining soil. Prepare the growing site by digging over the soil and adding a good handful of blood and bone or rich compost prior to planting out. Water in well at planting time and then on an occasional basis to promote growth. Can be trimmed to shape after flowering if required. No particular pests or diseases.
