Description
Lovely summer flowering, deciduous shrub which bears finely toothed, opposite paired leaves and crowded sprays of uniquely fragrant rich pink and white blooms in February to April. Magicien grows to 1.5 metres tall by up to 2.5 metres wide in a graceful bushy form with long, arching, cane like stems. Suitable for temperate to cool climates with a shady aspect.
Cultivation
Choose a sheltered position some sun during the day and moist fertile soil that is free draining. Prepare the planting site by digging over the soil and adding a good handful of blood and bone or rich compost. Water in well at planting time and then on an occasional basis to promote growth. Avoid pruning the previous year’s short lateral shoots; thin out canes and shorten some of the thickest old stems after flowering. No particular pests or diseases.
