Description

Daphne Somerset is an easily grown semi-evergreen/deciduous shrub with simple deep green leathery leaves and sweetly scented deep pink flowers with pale pink lobes. It is a quite vigorous low, rounded plant which flowers best in full sun in winter and grows to about 1 metre tall and wide. Ideally suited to garden locations with an east or southerly aspect in a semi shaded position in temperate to cool climates.

Cultivation

As Daphne is drought and frost tender, choose a site that has cool, well draining, gritty, compost rich soil in a semi-sheltered position. Apply a handful of blood and bone to the area where the plant is to be placed and water in well. Ensure that the soil is kept moist at all times. No particular pests or diseases.
