Description

A lovely, low growing perennial, ideal as ground cover, the front of borders or in rock gardens. It is clump forming; growing to a height and spread of 40cm. It has decorative, wavy edged leaves covered with fine hairs which hold dew or raindrops to give a sparkling effect. In summer it bears masses of small sprays of greenish-yellow flowers similar in character to gypsophila.

Cultivation

Alchemilla is a very hardy plant that is frost resistant but drought tender. It is easily grown in any well drained soil and should be positioned where it will receive some afternoon shade to prevent scorching of the foliage from the summer heat. Water regularly but do not over water. Their spreading stems often make root, so cutting the plant back at the end of every season will prevent it from becoming invasive.
