Description

Nerine bowdenii
Nerine bowdenii has long thin dark green leaves and a rigid stem topped by an umbel of 8 to 12 pale pink trumpet-like flowers with wide open wavy edged reflexed petals. Bowdenii is a cold tolerant variety and able to grow in cooler climatic regions, however it will grow and flower best where the summers are hot, with warm nights. They look best planted among shrubs to extend the flowering season into late summer and autumn or in the mixed border in bold groups.

Nerine hybrid
"Coral Queen"

Coral Queen is an early spring flowering nerine which produces beautiful coral rose coloured finely pointed star shaped flowers on 40cm stems. It is a cold tolerant variety and able to grow in cooler climatic regions, however it will grow and flower best where the summers are hot, with warm nights. They look best planted among shrubs to extend the flowering season into late summer and autumn or in the mixed border in bold groups.

Cultivation

Choose an open and full sunny site with any free draining, reasonably rich garden soil. Prepare the growing site by digging over the soil and adding a good handful of blood and bone or rich compost prior to planting out. Plant the bulbs with their necks just level with the soil surface in warmer climates and in containers and anywhere up to 15cm deep in very cold areas. Water in well at planting time and then on an occasional basis to promote growth. Plants will respond well to regular applications of liquid fertiliser and watering throughout the growing season. No particular pests or diseases but protect them from snails and slugs.
